Look as Good as You Feel With Natural-Looking Botox Treatments

Despite our best skincare efforts, fine lines and wrinkles inevitably occur to a greater or lesser degree as we age. They are not, however, impossible to get rid of, and at Dermaclinique we offer services that reduce signs of aging in a natural-looking manner.

Fine lines are caused by the natural breakdown of collagen and elastin in your skin that comes with aging or excessive exposure to sun. While a good skin care regimen can delay fine lines and wrinkles, once they do appear you will want technicians who can offer the best Botox St. Petersburg and Tampa have available.

What is Botox?

Botox® Cosmetic is a chemical prescription that is derived from Botulinum toxin type A and type B. There are eight types of Botulinum toxin, named type ‘A’ through type ‘H.’ Only types A and B are used commercially in medicine and cosmetics. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein that is produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria and related species. It temporarily paralyzes your muscle activity by releasing neurotransmitters from the nerve into your muscle.

It was approved for medical use by the FDA in 1989, and commercially, it was marketed as Botox. In the purely medical field, Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating, repetitive neck spasms, lazy eyes, overactive bladders, and chronic migraines.

The FDA approved the cosmetic use of Botox in 2002. A plastic surgeon from Sacramento, California, was the first to document the cosmetic effect of Botulinum-A on wrinkles. This was followed by many studies which similarly found that Botox produced marked improvements to skin texture and tone when applied to areas affected by lines and wrinkles. Today, Botox is used widely in the cosmetic industry not only by those who already have wrinkles, but also by people who want to maintain their existing smooth skin.

What is the Procedure for Botox Like?

Dr. Priya Nayyar, M.D. has several years of experience in administering Botox injections. While Botox is normally considered a safe and simple procedure, Dr. Nayyar takes care to ensure it is administered correctly and precisely so as to reduce risks and recovery time.

Your Botox procedure will begin with a consultation with Dr. Nayyar, M.D. who will analyze your medical history, medications, and allergies. She will also explain the procedure to you in full and give you an understanding of what to expect at each step. She will analyze your face and create a treatment plan that will best suit your facial structure. She will also inform you of how much Botox you will get and in which areas will be applied, before the treatment begins.

During the procedure, Dr. Nayyar  will carefully identify and mark the areas on your face to be treated. She will then apply a mild cleanser to the area. Based on your preference, the area may then be numbed to avoid any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Dr. Nayyar will then use a narrow micro-needle to inject the Botox directly into your facial muscle. Since the needle used is very small, the pain is usually minimal. She will then apply ice and pressure to avoid swelling in the treated areas after the procedure.

What Should I Expect After a Botox Treatment?

You can start to resume your daily activities immediately after the Botox procedure. Dr. Nayyar will suggest the following aftercare instructions to avoid unintended damage or side effects to the skin:

  • Do not lay down for a few hours after the treatment.
  • Do not exercise for 24 hours following the procedure.
  • Avoid rubbing the treated area.

The side effects of Botox treatment are minimal. If any, you may experience some of the following:

  • A headache, which resolves within a day or two.
  • Bruising, minor swelling, redness or numbness, which resolve in a week or two.
  • Drooping eyelids, which resolve in two to three weeks.

These side effects are very mild and do not cause any severe damage. The side effects vary from person to person, and they can be reduced or avoided by closely following your aftercare instructions.

Occasionally we encounter patients who have had a non-optimum experience with Botox from another practitioner. If this applies to you, or if you have any other concerns or questions about Botox, Dr. Nayyar is more than happy to consult with you and address any of your concerns. Her goal is to help you achieve your aesthetic goals in the most optimum way, and she will only recommend treatments that will be of benefit to you.
